"The Finding of Moses"

One of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema's greatest works sold November 4, 2010 for $35,922,000 at New York's Sotheby's.

"The Years at the Spring"

Portrait of Mrs. Charles Wyllie

Born in the Netherlands and trained at the Royal Academy of Antwerp in Belgium, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema became famous for his depictions of the decadent lifestyle of the Roman Empire.

He is known for languorous figures set in fabulous marbled interiors against a backdrop of dazzling blue medeterranean sea and sky.

HIs artwork fell in into disrepute after his death and since the 1960's it has been reevaluated for its importance in 19th century art
